Going expat

Its been a while since my last blog. Going back to work four days a week has left my head spinning and my routine fractured. I love my new job but its not leaving a lot of mental space for writing.

That’s all about to change.

I’m currently packing my bags for a week of writing on all things expat. I’m off to the Families in Global Transition Conference in The Hague, as a helper to the amazing PPWR writers who will be recording every session for posterity and for those who cannot make this amazing event.

I’m going to see old friends and connecting with those who have become ‘virtual’ friends through their blogs and social media outreach. I am looking forward to sharing my own experiences throughout the week through the blog and social media.

Perhaps the most exciting and slightly terrifying thing is that for a whole week I’m going to be an expat. Now, technically, I am always an expat but I realized recently that I’ve gone local. Apart from texts, WhatsApp, emails and Facebook, I don’t have much expat contact and almost none of it right here where I’m actually living. There is one notable exception but, like me, she’s gone local too.

So exploring FIGT17’s theme of ‘Creating your tribe on the move’ will be particularly interesting for me.

I look forward to sharing the experience with you!
